RECIPE! Pea, Lentil and Ham Soup. Slow Cooker Recipe
This recipe made a huge amount of healthy soups that the kids have loved but is one for the whole family. My Mum and Dad made this for me when I was little and I have put my own little spin on it! And used a very old slow cooker that was Paul’s Mums! But these old school ones are amazing.
-1kg ham hock
-1 and 1/2 cups of dried green split peas, washed and drained
-1 and 1/2 cups of dried whole green lentils, washed and drained
-2 litres of vegetable stock, salt reduced
-1 and 1/2 cups frozen peas
-1 onion
-3 carrots, thinly sliced
-3 coves garlic, crushed
-3 celery sticks
-1 cup thickened cream (optional)
-in a slow cooker on high, place the split peas, lentils first, then the whole ham hock, onion, garlic, carrots, celery and stock and cook for 6 hours.
-remove the ham and set aside.
-add frozen peas and cover
-remove the rind, bone and fat from the ham and dice up into chunks
-once frozen peas are hot, blitz the soup in batches in a food processor.
-pour into a large bowl, add the ham to the soup and mix in thickened cream if you want a creamer consistency.

-season with salt and pepper if you want but I don’t with the kids :)
